Upper School Commemorates Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut
On Tuesday, the Lefell Upper School commemorated Yom HaZikaron with a poignant tekes led by the seventh and eleventh grades. Through song, poetry, candle lighting and a moving drashah from a graduating senior, the community honored Israel’s fallen soldiers and victims of terror. This solemnity transitioned into a joyful Yom Ha’Atzmaut on Wednesday, centered on the theme Am Echad, Lev Echad (One People, One Heart). This theme underscores the inseparable bond between the Jewish people and the land of Israel—a connection of identity and history that feels especially resonant today. Students engaged in Israel-based electives ranging from street art and cooking to Israeli-themed escape rooms. High schoolers even “traveled” to a recreated Machane Yehuda Shuk, using their Hebrew to bargain for snacks with teachers-turned-vendors. The day ended on a high note with a festive, spirited zimriyah (song festival).
