Con Law II: The Bill of Rights and the Supreme Court
Course ID: 26130
Course Level: regular
Core or Elective: elective
Department: Agora
Grades: 9, 10, 11, and 12
This Advanced Agora Seminars course functions as an analytical laboratory for the evolution of individual rights and the mechanics of the American judicial system. Using a case-study methodology, students trace the narrative of civil liberties through the shifting interpretations of the Bill of Rights and subsequent amendments. The seminar focuses on the “Great Debates” of the courtroom: the tension between national security and personal privacy, the boundaries of protected expression in a digital age, and the ongoing struggle for equal protection under the law. Students will learn to navigate the complexities of legal precedent, dissecting both the majority and dissenting opinions to understand how the law breathes and adapts to a changing society. Note: Con Law I is not a prerequisite for this class. (Note that Agora offerings are updated each semester)
