The Lion’s Table: Helping Alumni to Connect Over Shabbat Dinner

The Leffell School is launching a new initiative to help Leffell School/Schechter Westchester alumni reconnect with one another and with our kehilah by recreating one of their favorite school traditions: the Shabbat meal, no matter where life has taken them.

Thanks to a generous sponsor, The Lion’s Table will support alumni-hosted Shabbat dinners across the country, covering costs and adding a few special touches along the way. The goal is simple: to bring alumni together around the table, strengthen bonds with fellow graduates, and keep them connected to the community that shaped them.

Alumni who host a Shabbat dinner for at least four guests, with at least half being fellow Leffell School/SW graduates, can receive up to $20 per person (capped at $200 per meal) delivered via a Visa gift card. Each alum may host up to three subsidized dinners each year.

Hosts will also receive a thank-you gift at home and a curated dvar Torah from a Leffell School faculty member to help spark conversation at the table.

Signing up is easy. Alumni simply register their planned meal on the program’s webpage to request funding, and after the dinner takes place, the school will confirm attendance and mail the reimbursement.
